Associate Counsel

Position Description:

To assist in all legal, governance and operational matters involving the WNBA and D-League across all functions, with an emphasis on basketball matters, including player contracts, trades, salary cap management, and rule administration.

Major Responsibilities:

Support league and team basketball operations, including player contract administration, salary cap enforcement, player trades, player/coach discipline, drug testing, and international clearances and visas

Assist with drafting and implementing league rules/operations manual across all business areas

Support league governance, including minutes drafting and management of committees

Support legal team on all matters related to collective bargaining

Support team equity transactions, team hybrid relationships, and expansion sales

Assist in minimizing liabilities and risks for leagues and teams

Participate in player grievances and other relevant litigations

Contribute to WNBA and D-League strategy development and execution

Required Experience & Knowledge:

Excellent research, writing and communication skills

Organizational and project management skills necessary to support and advise legal and business units

High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance

Minimum of 4 years of experience at a top tier law firm and/or corporate legal department

Educational Background Required:

Law degree from a top law school and bar admission
