Our Legal team is dedicated to supporting Karat’s people, solving complex problems with both a business and a legal mindset, and serving as a strategic partner across every function in our dynamic organization. What you will do
As our General Counsel, you will join Karat’s existing Legal department as its fourth member. You will serve as a member of Karat’s executive team and work to integrate the Legal department across the company and provide all levels of the organization with premier support and counsel. You will be crucial to supporting the growth of our business, and you will have responsibilities and opportunities to contribute across many aspects of the business given Karat’s growth trajectory.
Negotiate enterprise customer agreements to support Karat's sales cycles and capacity.
Develop legal templates, workflows, processes, policies and playbooks to help optimize contracting efficiency and help Karat grow and scale
Strategize and counsel on the risks and opportunities of proposed actions and activities and devise practical solutions to meet cross-organizational business objectives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on key issues, understanding broader needs and objectives with the goal of delivering pragmatic, business-minded advice.

The experience you will bring
J.D. degree from an accredited law school
Bar admission in current good standing, with a license to practice in at least one U.S. state
10+ years of legal experience, of which a significant portion was developed as a leader within an in-house legal team (preferably in B2B2C, B2B SaaS, or another technology-focused industry) managing multiple direct reports.
Demonstrated fluency in executive leadership, with the understanding of when to elevate issues and when to accommodate the business with flexibility.
Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences (including non-legal business partners and executives) your viewpoint and the significance of why certain issues matter for the business.
Excellent business judgment and ability to balance risk-reward in a manner to provide pragmatic, solution-oriented advice that does not compromise core legal protections
Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to drive difficult matters towards a positive outcome quickly, collaboratively, and with effective communication with all stakeholders
Growth mindset to pivot to meet evolving needs and priorities and to lead long-term improvements of Karat’s organizational and corporate structure, processes, policies, and relationships to improve efficiency and deliver beneficial results for all stakeholders
This is a full time, salaried position. Immigration sponsorship is not available.
Karat is a remote company with employees throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. For this position, we are only considering individuals based in the United States.
