Who We’re Looking For:
As a member of the Legal team, you will be responsible for structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements with advertisers, agencies, content providers supporting Skillz’ business development and developer relations teams, and will focus on negotiating, drafting and reviewing a wide variety of commercial agreements. You will work closely with the Executive Team advising on legal risks, business strategies and other issues related to the deals you support. You will help us to build and structure scalable tools and processes to support a fast-growing global revenue organization. You will bring extraordinary business judgment and creativity to your daily role, and have a track record both of collaborating and thriving in a fast-paced team environment.
We want your legal smarts, business sense, a strong work ethic and a good personality because you'll be dealing with challenging legal issues. You will need to be able to operate independently and work actively with various teams across the organization. Ideally you have worked in-house at a technology, entertainment, media and/or Internet company, or have worked for clients in one or more of these industries at a law firm.
Review, draft and negotiate sales and other commercial agreements
Identify and inform appropriate partners of business and legal risks in the deals you support
Respond promptly to legal requests
Deliver timely, pragmatic, and business-focused legal counsel, even in ambiguous situations
Lead internal governance policies and improve standard form agreements
Improve and grow legal processes that scale
3-5 years of in-house legal or outside counsel work experience
Success in working in conjunction with business clients in support of creative content acquisition and distribution programs
Substantial understanding of intellectual property, advertising, data, patent, and contract legal issues
Strong track record of advising clients or a company in structuring a wide range of commercial transactions
Significant experience in drafting and negotiating sales-related contracts
Strong organizational agility and a demonstrated experience of handling multiple urgent projects concurrently
Effectiveness in leading project expectations, upper level management reporting, and critical issue management
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
J.D. and California Bar admission in good standing
