Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (BSAM) is seeking an attorney experienced in Labor & Employment Law to fill a senior counsel position in the Company’s Law Department. This position will report to the General Counsel, Labor & Employment.

BSAM is headquartered in Nashville, TN and, along with its subsidiaries, employs 43,000 teammates throughout the Americas. The Business includes tire manufacturing plants, more than 2,200 retail stores, more than 200 commercial stores, distribution centers, and building products and industrial products facilities.


Advising BSAM Human Resources on employment law matters under federal and state laws (e.g., Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA)

Monitoring legal developments to ensure compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws

Drafting and revising policies

Investigating employment law claims to respond to EEOC Charges, State Agency Charges, and Claims under the Company’s Employee Dispute Resolution Plan

Litigating claims under the Company’s EDR Plan, including written discovery, taking and defending depositions, conducting arbitration hearings, and drafting post-hearing briefs

Drafting responses to Charges and Claims and representing the Company in administrative proceedings

Drafting mediation statements, handling mediation, and negotiating legal settlements

Conducting compliance training

Engaging outside counsel in an effective and cost-effective manner and managing litigation

Assessing legal risk and making recommendations to senior management

Traveling on a regular basis to attend mediation and hearings and to conduct training


J.D. from an accredited law school

License to practice law and in good standing in any U.S. state

Demonstrated knowledge of, experience in, and interest in all aspects of employment law

A minimum of five years of professional law practice experience (law firm and/or in house) with primary focus in Labor & Employment law

Experience with union facilities is a plus but not required

Knowledge of California employment laws is a plus but not required

Excellent communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to synthesize complex legal issues to their essential elements

Demonstrated experience, comfort and confidence to interact and relate well within a legal department, and build trusting relationships with HR and the senior leadership of BSAM’s operating units and subsidiaries

The ability to work well in a team environment

The self-confidence to work autonomously

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal issues, measure legal risk, and communicate guidance to management

The ability to supervise and manage outside counsel

The ability to prioritize responsibilities, to work efficiently, to manage and to conclude, in a timely manner, many projects, issues, and cases

A measured sense of humor and diplomatic skills, each to be used appropriately
