AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs (GLCR) department is comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. On September 25, 2017, AIG announced organizational changes designed to best position the company as a growing, more profitable insurer focused on underwriting excellence. Their Core businesses include General Insurance, Life and Retirement and Other Operations. General Insurance consists of two operating segments -- North America and International. Life and Retirement consists of four operating segments -- Individual Retirement, Group Retirement, Life Insurance and Institutional Markets. Blackboard U.S. Holdings, Inc. (Blackboard), AIG’s technology-driven subsidiary, is reported within Other Operations. They also report a Legacy Portfolio consisting of our run-off insurance lines and legacy investments that they consider non-core.

The Role (location, reporting line, title & responsibilities): Based in Manhattan and reporting to AIG’s Chief Cybersecurity and Privacy Legal Officer, Associate General Counsel.

Americas Cybersecurity & Privacy Counsel, Assistant General Counsel

  • Providing information security and data privacy legal guidance pertaining to public filing disclosures (e.g. 10K), Board updates, security policies and procedures, and governance.

  • Advising on North and South America (Americas) information security and data privacy legal requirements in third party contracts, including negotiating and advising on federal, state and international required contractual terms and best practices.Developing security and data privacy template contracts, providing counseling on the use of such templates, and updating the same to reflect changes in business needs and security and data privacy laws and regulations, guidance and best practices.

  • Advising multiple stakeholders across business teams and functions security and data privacy legal requirements for new products and services, including encryption, multifactor authentication, and restrictions for marketing.

  • Advising on language regarding new proposed security and privacylaws in the Americas.Monitoring and advising on implementation of new governing security and privacylaws in the Americas.

  • Advising on appropriate responses to international, federal and state governmental and external client inquiries regarding AIGinformation security and privacy practices.

  • Working with evelop and provide business partners general and targeted counseling and training

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • At least 6 years’ experience, preferably from a top tier private practice law firm or in-house at a multi-national financial services company.

  • Substantial experience in Americas security laws, regulations and best practices, including an understanding of the NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation, NIST Cyber Framework, ISO, Identity Theft Red Flags Rule, and other security laws and frameworks.
  • Moderate experience in Americas privacy laws, regulations and best practices.

  • Knowledge of insurance specific privacy and security laws a plus.

  • Conscientious and collaborative, with an ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving with an ability to adapt to shifting priorities and meet deadlines.Works will under pressure.

  • Graduate of accredited law school in the US who is licensed to practice in New York state.
