Based in Chicago and reporting to the President and CEO will collaborate with Leadership, Operations, and Finance to provide the Legal leadership for the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transactions—provide the legal leadership in support of parking asset, entity level, and financing transactions. Managing external counsel on real estate matters related to asset acquisitions, dispositions, development projects,financings and other special transactions or projects as relevant (i.e. retail leasing, commercial partnerships, SAAS).
- Government Relations—coordinate government relations in support of real estate development projects and parking industry interests as well as local matters involving real estate ownership (taxes, zoning, compliance).
- Drafting and negotiating various parking management and real estate agreements (REAS, easements, leases, options, etc).
- Providing legal and strategic advice to the Company’s various commercial, operational, and administrative teams.
- Governance and corporate entity management
- Chief Compliance officer and involvement in risk management activities such as insurance claims and litigation)
- ESG--Sustainability—lead on the InterPark sustainability team, reporting and initiatives. Lead/participate in community outreach and diversity initiatives
- Coordinate with external legal resources
- Responsible for CIFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States) compliance administration
- Oversight of all InterPark business contracts
- Preparing and presenting on general legal and real estate topics at Board meetings and to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Representation on industry associations
QUALIFICATIONS: JD Required. Qualified professionals will have a minimum of 3-5 years of real estate legal work experience and prior success closing commercial real estate asset transactions with an additional interest in playing a material role in other corporate functions and activities such as finance, commercial and operations, HR, IT and risk management. It will be important for prospective candidates to be familiar with complex real estate transactions and to be comfortable negotiating the legal terms in support of acquisitions and dispositions while also taking on a generalist mentality for all aspects of the business.
Qualified candidates must possess the following requirements and characteristics:
- Experience in general commercial contract development and negotiation.
- Strong organizational, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of work product.
- Some travel may be necessary.
- Compliance and governance focus.
- Strong communicator, self-confident, and the ability to make and articulate legal matters in a concise and coherent fashion.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative environment internally as well as establish and maintain productive external relationships.
- Experience in a work environment where best-in-class processes and procedures are the norm.
- A highly motivated individual with strong work ethic, who is eager to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering outstanding results.
