About the role

You will be a strategic advisor and legal counselor to Zillow Group’s StreetEasy brand, as a member of the Homes Legal & Compliance Team. You will use your industry expertise to advise on legal, compliance and regulatory matters related to residential real estate, including licensing, advertising, brokerage operations and compliance, real estate rules and regulations. You will also serve the point of contact to business lines and product teams pursuing initiatives. The ideal candidate will have outstanding attention to detail, drafting and negotiation skills, and residential real estate industry knowledge and expertise, including a strong command of state real estate regulations. More importantly, a candidate must have expertise in the industry to quickly issue spot, evaluate risk, and offer creative solutions to sophisticated problems. In this role, you will:

• Serve as a strategic partner and advisor, advising on business, legal, and operational issues and risks associated with licensed real estate services operations in New York

• Collaborate with business and compliance leaders as the legal specialist providing day-to-day support on regulated real estate transactions and licensing laws primarily in New York.

• Partner with cross-functional business teams and shared services to identify and resolve complex legal and compliance matters in an evolving tech-enabled real estate service operation.

• Advise the compliance team on legal matters that arise in connection with managing the state license portfolio.

• Advise and support the compliance team in creating policies, procedures, controls, and overseeing efforts in regulatory compliance; provide legal support on regulatory exams, internal audit, and risk assessment efforts.

• Negotiate commercial agreements and other documents and agreements.

• Be instrumental to the success of a rapidly growing, creative platform.

Who you are

• Have 5+ years of experience as a real estate or corporate lawyer with a national or regional law firm or an in-house legal department at a brokerage, real estate, or tech company. NY experience highly preferred.

• Have a JD with state bar admission. NY star bar admission preferred.

• Possess expertise in licensed residential real estate operations and the real estate industry as a whole

• Be comfortable assuming risk and offering live, business advice with limited preparation

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

• Have strong communication skills with non-lawyers and be able to teach process and procedures to business lines, product teams, and third-party partners

• Excel at collaborating with across departments and levels to develop consumer-centric, creative, proactive business solutions in a complex legal and regulatory environment
