Job Description:
The Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) Office of General Counsel (OGC) is seeking an experienced intellectual property (IP) lawyer. Reporting to the RMD Lead for Shared Legal Services, this position will be part of the team responsible for all IP legal matters throughout RMD.
The successful candidate will support the strategy, preparation, review, and negotiation of IP issues for a wide range of business transactions. The candidate will have substantial experience working with strategic IP portfolio management, transactions related to IP aspects of US Government and international procurements, commercial licensing transactions, and legal aspects of patents, copyrights and trademarks in US and foreign jurisdictions. The successful candidate will be a leader capable of working collaboratively with other IP attorneys and the business counsel responsible for the RMD mission area in which the IP issue arises. She or he must be able to positively influence cross-functional teams handling a range of IP matters and integrate easily into teams to create timely solutions to IP problems that make good business and legal sense.
Responsibilities include:
- Proactively engaging with business and technical leadership on complex IP issues concerning legal rights and obligations involved in the business at RMD, including but not limited to, technical data rights, rights in software, compliance with FAR and DFARS, Raytheon standard terms and conditions, patents, trade secrets, trademark, and other legal and regulatory compliance issues
- Supporting proposals and negotiations of IP terms and conditions, contracts, licenses, and other transactions with domestic and international customers and suppliers
- Identifying and evaluating opportunities for leveraging intellectual property for application in RMD core business areas and to protect technological exclusivity
- Structuring and executing IP transactions consistent with business and technology strategies
- Performing IP review of products and their development (e.g., funding), as well as their pertinent contracts and agreements, to determine compliance with government regulations and rights to technical data and software, and third party software, including FOSS
- Managing IP aspects of disputes with customers, suppliers, and business partners, including data rights challenges, litigation, arbitration, bid protests, and claims before state and federal courts and administrative bodies
- Collaborating with other lawyers, engineers, and managers in contracts, supply chain, business development, and across the RMD business and Raytheon Technologies
- Assisting with branding, policing and related enforcement activity
- Performing IP review of third party licenses including software licenses
- Managing outside counsel, as required
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years related experience with law degree
- Experience with IP aspects of US government and International proposals and contracts
- Experience with growing and strategically managing and enforcing an IP portfolio
- Substantial knowledge of patent, copyright, trade secret, and trademark law
- Experience with structuring, drafting and negotiating IP licenses
- In good standing with the bar of a US jurisdiction
- JD from an accredited US law school
- Willingness to travel as needed, sometimes on short notice (both domestic and international - up to 20%)
- This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization
- Ability to obtain a US government secret security clearance within 12 months of hire date

- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in STEM preferred
- Strong leadership skills and sound business and legal judgment
- Ability to collaborate well in the company’s matrix of working relationships to shape solutions
- Ability to influence clients and counterparts with superior oral and written communication skills
- Pro-active, well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize to match the pace of business
- Registration to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
