Legal Counsel, Product & Tech

As Legal Counsel for Product & Tech at Spotify you will work with our innovative product owners, engineers, data scientists, designers, researchers and developers to help create an amazing Spotify experience for our users.

This is a full time permanent position, based in New York.
What you’ll do:

As Legal Counsel for Spotify you will primarily partner with and provide legal guidance to the Research & Development organization at Spotify. You will work throughout all stages of product development and design and technology procurement and deployment. Our products are groundbreaking, revolutionary and evolving so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise on legal risks. Responsibilities include:

    Ensuring that Spotify’s products are compliant with international laws and regulations relating to privacy, consumer protection, data protection, security, content, intellectual property, and other relevant laws;
    Drafting and negotiating contracts for a diverse array of technology transactions, including software licenses, evaluation agreements, external research, IT procurement deals, and more;
    Counseling and advising teams on all product-related legal issues, questions and requests;
    Conducting legal review in connection with expansion into new markets;
    Establishing and maintaining all product-related legal resources, such as privacy notices, terms of service, etc.;
    Maintaining proficient understanding of international legal and policy developments that may affect the product and tech aspects of the business.

Who you are:

    You have a law degree from a top-tier law school.
    You have 5-8 years’ experience working in relevant areas of the law, at least some of which has been at a law firm. In-house experience is a plus.
    You have experience in advising / working for tech companies.
    You have a passion for complex legal problems; you can explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and you can understand complex technical concepts when they’re explained to you.
    You are self-motivated and can identify and attack work to be done without being instructed.
    You’re willing to get your hands dirty and dig in on projects.
    You work well as part of a team — both with other lawyers and with non-legal stakeholders.
    You are qualified to practice law as in-house counsel in the State of New York.
