Job Description:
We are currently seeking an Associate General Counsel. The Associate General Counsel – Employment/Litigation handles and oversees all employment litigation matters and employment-related issues for Carnival Corporation and Carnival Cruise Line including drafting and advising on employment policy, benefits and procedures, employee claims including EEOC matters and preparation of position statements, conducts internal investigations, advises on re-organization plans, supports the business on employee issues, develops training on HR matters and works on immigration matters. The position works closely with the Carnival Corporation and Carnival Cruise Line Human Resource senior management teams and their staff on employment related policies and procedures. The position also has responsibility for overseeing all major and complex commercial litigation matters involving Carnival Corporation and/or its business units including contractual disputes, class action litigation, government or administrative investigations, assists in document production and coordinates discovery matters, including records retention, legal holds and e-discovery issues. Quarterly litigation reporting is also a requirement of the job. The Associate General Counsel – Employment/Litigation is responsible for strategic decisions regarding complex litigation matters, government or administrative reviews and investigations and employment related matters as well as tactical-level decisions regarding specific employment related and commercial issues or decisions that arise during the course of business. The position is responsible for identifying, engaging and managing the activities of third parties in support of the litigation efforts including outside counsel, consultants and service providers. The Associate General Counsel coordinates annual budgeting of litigation and employment related activities and is responsible for controlling outside legal costs, including tracking expenses versus approved budgets. The position requires working independently and directly with senior leadership of Carnival Corporation and its business units. Position supervises numerous outside attorneys and makes independent decisions on a daily basis as to strategy and instruction over these matters. Decision making authority with regard to settlement amounts of cases as approved by General Counsel.
Qualifications:
- College degree and a JD from an accredited law school.
- Florida Bar membership.
- Minimum 5 years of experience at an in house position or law firm involving litigation and employment matters.
