Associate Counsel
Job Summary
In-house counsel role providing support across the Legal Department of a growing financial services company focused on insurance, retirement and investment management. The individual will initially focus on developing a deep knowledge of the company’s products, services and operations with a focus on managing claims, litigation and regulatory matters. This position offers a tremendous growth opportunity for an attorney interested in joining a high-performing team and building a career in financial services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries
- Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters
- Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues
- Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives
- Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business
- Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of two years of practical experience in private practice or in-house as well as admission to the Connecticut Bar
- Experience or Demonstrated Interest in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation preferred
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong Work Ethic coupled with a Proactive Growth Mindset
- Humble but not passive. Confident but not arrogant
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into practical guidance
- Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, with a strong sense of ownership and professional judgment

The base salary for this position falls within Nassau’s salary band F: $100,000 + depending upon experience.
