The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Wyoming has one position available for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in our Civil Division. The District of Wyoming encompasses a large and diverse geographical area of 97,914 square miles and a relatively small population of about 588,283.

This AUSA vacancy is in our headquarters office, located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state's capital and largest city. Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree The office has one opening for an experienced litigator to serve as an AUSA in the Civil Division in our Cheyenne office. The selected AUSA will be primarily responsible for representing the United States of America, federal agencies, and federal employees in a wide variety of civil defensive litigation. The caseload may include medical malpractice, premises liability, and other tort litigation; defense of employment discrimination cases; Administrative Procedure Act cases; Immigration cases; Bankruptcy matters, and affirmative civil cases (particularly in the areas of fraud and controlled substance act violations). The Civil Division also oversees the collection of civil and criminal federal debts. This includes fines and any restitution amount ordered by the court, as well as civil judgments with a monetary component. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress. Due to the small number of civil AUSAs employed in the District, each AUSA usually handles a variety of cases and the opportunities to specialize may be limited.

Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law. See www.sss.gov. Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, and demonstrated excellence in trial advocacy and legal writing. If the successful candidate is not a member of the Wyoming State Bar and is not eligible to become a member of the Bar upon motion or transfer of UBE score, he or she will be expected to favorably complete the Wyoming Bar Examination at the next available opportunity.

United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Hiring for AUSA positions is highly competitive. Our ideal candidates will have:
