Description


The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office is currently seeking experienced, practicing attorneys for its Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau.

The District Attorney's Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau investigates and prosecutes complex and systematic criminal activity committed by organized crime and criminal enterprises. The Bureau's long term criminal investigations relate to enterprise corruption, extortion, coercion, loansharking, gambling, book making, money laundering, unlicensed money remitting, labor racketeering, bribery, pattern burglaries, trademark counterfeiting and other white collar crime.

The bureau is comprised of dedicated attorneys, analysts and detectives who are responsible for cases from the inception of the investigation through final disposition.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Have passed the NYS Bar Examination and be admitted to the practice of law in NYS, in good standing, prior to submitting an application;
  • Reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with NCDA;
  • Have at least five (5) years of experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution, including significant long-term investigations experience, as well as grand jury and felony jury trial experience (drafting eavesdropping and search warrants preferred);
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Have strong organizational and analytical abilities; and
  • Make a two-year commitment to employment at the NCDAO.

Duties and Responsibilities


An ADA in the Organized Crime and Rackets Bureau manages an active criminal case docket, which includes:

  • Maintaining current knowledge of investigative methods and proper application of current law;
  • Investigating cases using various types of legal process (e.g., subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, eavesdropping warrants), cooperating defendants, and traditional and electronic surveillance;
  • Prosecuting the cases that arise from investigations, including preparing and filing pleadings, handling discovery, drafting and arguing motions and responses;
  • Conducting witness preparation, grand jury presentations, hearings and trials;
  • Evaluating cases to formulate and negotiate appropriate dispositions;
  • Conferencing cases with defense counsel and judges;
  • Making court appearances pertaining to all phases of litigation; and
  • Collaborating with the NCPD and Nassau County’s local police departments, as well as a variety of local, state and federal law enforcement partners.
