Summary:

The Tyson Foods Legal Department is seeking a Staff Attorney – Intellectual Property to provide day-to-day legal support for trademark, patent, and advertising matters across the enterprise, with a primary focus on marketing, innovation, and brand protection. This role will perform attorney-level intellectual property and advertising legal work that is critical to protecting Tyson Foods’s brands, supporting business growth, and mitigating regulatory and litigation risk. The position is designed to handle high-volume, execution-oriented IP and advertising work while enabling senior counsel to focus on strategic and regulatory priorities.

Strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform attorney-level legal work related to domestic trademark prosecution, including clearance analysis, filing strategy, and drafting and signing USPTO Office Action responses.

  • Review advertising and marketing claims for legal compliance across multiple brands, including packaging, promotions, and campaigns, to mitigate regulatory and litigation risk.

  • Provide legal guidance on advertising, marketing, and intellectual property agreements, including drafting, review, and negotiation.

  • Advise business partners on intellectual property and advertising laws, regulations, and best practices in a clear, business-focused manner.

  • Support education and training for business teams on trademark use, advertising compliance, and related legal requirements.

  • Support patent prosecution through coordination, substantive analysis, and management of outside counsel.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

Experience:

  • Two or more years of legal experience, or an equivalent combination of legal experience and specialized training preferred.

  • Experience with trademark prosecution, advertising and marketing review, or intellectual property support; experience in a highly regulated industry and patent prosecution is preferred but not required.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate legal requirements into practical, business-oriented guidance preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining attention to detail preferred

  • Demonstrated sound judgment, independence, and professionalism when working with senior attorneys and business partners preferred.
