Assistant General Counsel, Global Financial Crimes Legal
JOB DESCRIPTION
Join the Global Financial Crimes Legal team at JPMorganChase in a role at the center of innovation, risk management and client impact. You will help shape how emerging products and services are designed and delivered in a highly regulated environment. You will partner closely with business, compliance, technology and control teams to translate complex legal requirements into practical controls and solutions. You will bring sound judgment, curiosity and a collaborative approach to novel matters.
As an attorney in the Global Financial Crimes Legal Practice Group, you will provide subject matter expert legal advice and transactional support on financial crimes topics across the firm, with a focus on digital asset-related matters. You will advise on anti-money laundering, know your customer and anti-corruption issues for products, services, investments and strategic transactions. You will partner with stakeholders to design controls tailored to novel risk areas and evolving regulatory expectations. You will also support governance, escalations, investigations and policy development.

Job responsibilities
- Advise on financial crimes (anti-money laundering, Know Your Customer/Customer Due Diligence and anti-corruption) for blockchain and digital asset products and services, including tokenization, cryptocurrency transactions, custody solutions and interactions with virtual asset service providers.
- Assess novel financial crimes risks and regulatory expectations related to the digital asset industry.
- Partner with business and compliance stakeholders on product design and on developing and implementing controls (including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and travel rule considerations).
- Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives involving digital asset innovation with technology, business, compliance and control partners.
- Conduct financial crimes due diligence for investments, acquisitions and strategic transactions and advise on risks and mitigants.
- Monitor regulatory, legislative and industry developments impacting financial crimes risk in the digital assets space and advise on implementation.
- Provide legal guidance on high-risk escalations across lines of business and complex payments products, including anti-money laundering risk and money transmission questions.
- Assist internal counsel and, as needed, outside counsel on investigations, litigation, or other matters involving financial crimes laws and regulations.
- Support development and periodic review of firm policies and procedures relating to anti-money laundering and anti-bribery and corruption programs (including digital asset topics).
- Present in governance and oversight forums, engage externally with clients and counterparties as needed and drive practical solutions aligned to business objectives and legal requirements.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Juris Doctor degree required.
- At least 5 years of experience advising on financial crimes matters or related areas.
- At least 1 year of experience advising on digital assets.
- Strong knowledge of financial crimes laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
- Ability to apply legal and regulatory requirements to complex fact patterns and deliver practical guidance.
- Understanding of banking and brokerage products, services and transactions, including experience supporting complex financial products and emerging technology initiatives.
- Experience navigating investigations, litigation and/or financial services regulatory matters (for example, in a law firm, government, prosecutor’s office or large multinational organization).
- Strong project management and organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Familiarity with relevant technology concepts (for example, smart contracts and distributed ledger technology) and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively amid evolving regulations and risk landscapes.
All candidates for roles in the Legal Department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment. Attorneys must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing or otherwise eligible to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the position is based.
