The Public Access Bureau’s mission is to help people obtain public documents and access public meetings. The Bureau's duties include reviewing denials of requests to inspect or copy public records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and examining allegations of a public body's violation of the requirements of the Open Meetings Act (OMA).

An Assistant Attorney General in the Public Access Bureau investigates and drafts opinions on FOIA and OMA, mediates disputes between members of the public and public bodies, helps design and provide training relating to FOIA or OMA, and assists the Public Access Counselor with other assigned tasks.

Candidates must possess excellent legal research and writing skills, and must be able to communicate effectively with citizens, government officials and members of the media. The ideal candidate will have experience with the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act or media-related issues. Candidates must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application.

Salary: Salaries are commensurate with number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and range from $ 84,480 to $ 107,550.
