Deputy County & Prosecuting Attorney
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under direction of the County Attorney, work involves responsibility for prosecution of criminal violations and for participating in functions of arraignments and trials, providing opinions and advice, and for performing similar related legal work.
• Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I: No Experience
• Deputy Prosecuting Attorney II: Some Experience
• Deputy Prosecuting Attorney III: Advanced Experience
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
• Reviews criminal investigative files submitted by law enforcement agencies;
• Monitors and assists in investigations;
• Prepares proper charging documents for criminal offenses;
• Researches and briefs pre-trial motions;
• Appears in court for hearings;
• Interviews and assists witnesses;
• Negotiates plea agreements;
• Recommends bonds and sentences;
• Performs legal research and prepares pleadings;
• Advises and assists the general public;
• Advises and assists law enforcement agencies on call as needed;
• Advises and assists county officials;
• On call 24 hours a day and 7 days on a rotating basis;
