Litigation Management Counsel / Insurance Defense

Boston, MA Hybrid Full Time

Our client, a well-established and highly respected specialty insurance organization, is seeking an Account Manager – Direct Claims to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced claims professional with a background in environmental, asbestos, or other complex latent claims who is looking to work on sophisticated matters in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

What You'll Do

As an Account Manager, you'll play a key role in managing complex property and casualty claims from initial notice through resolution. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze, investigate, and evaluate new loss notices and claim tenders.
  • Review and determine coverage under primary, umbrella, and excess insurance policies.
  • Coordinate with policy search teams to locate historical coverage documentation.
  • Retain and collaborate with defense counsel, insureds, and participating carriers to develop effective litigation and resolution strategies.
  • Proactively manage claims through settlement, mediation, and other resolution efforts.
  • Partner with legal, reinsurance, and management teams on coverage issues, declaratory judgment actions, and overall claim strategy.
  • Establish and monitor claim reserves and manage expense allocations.
  • Coordinate payment processing and oversee allocated loss adjustment expenses (ALAE).
  • Maintain thorough claim documentation and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of property & casualty claims experience, preferably handling environmental, asbestos, or other latent exposure claims, or a J.D. with relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to interpret complex insurance coverage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and internet-based applications.

Bonus Qualifications

  • J.D.
  • CPCU or other insurance industry designation.
  • Independent Property & Casualty Adjuster's License.
