The office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Senior Assistant City Attorney in the General Counsel Section. Must have a minimum of 5 years or more experience as a licensed attorney advising clients. Under direction, this position is responsible for performing varied and difficult professional legal work involving extensive legal research and complex trials; performs related duties as required.
The anticipated salary for this position is between $88,691 to $100,000 depending on experience.
Located at 77 N. Front, the General Counsel Section is responsible for advising the city and its departments and employees in all matters concerning the daily operations of city government.

•Must have a minimum of 5 years or more relevant experience as a licensed attorney advising clients, significant legal research and writing experience, statutory interpretation experience, and legal drafting experience including drafting legislation; prior litigation experience is preferred.

Preferred having knowledge of:
Legal principles of civil law, constitutional law, the Ohio Revised Code, Columbus City Codes, and other applicable municipal, state, and federal laws as they relate to the operations of city government.
•Constitutional law, Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Rules of Court, Ohio Rules of Evidence, and Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct;
•Legal, court, and judicial procedures, rules, terminology, methods, documents, practices, and objectives;
•Applicable municipal, state, and federal laws, statutes, ordinances, and codes;
•Legal research tools and methods;
•Statutory interpretation methods;
•English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition;
•Ability to think creatively and come up with solutions to issues;
•Ability to work effectively with persons from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds;
•Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Unclassified Positions:
A person who has been selected by an appointing authority in accordance with the Columbus City Charter, Section 148(1) is said to have received an unclassified appointment. Those individuals receiving unclassified appointments serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority and may be terminated from employment at any time. •Must currently be admitted to the Ohio bar and in good standing.•Reviews, edits, and drafts rules and legislation including administrative rules and City Code changes.

•Reviews and advises assigned departments regarding contract matters.
•Evaluates claims of or against the city for the purposes of recommending settlements.
