Position Summary

Luminus Network is seeking an experienced Staff Attorney to join our Legal Services team. This position may be filled on either a full-time or part-time basis.


The Staff Attorney will provide high-quality immigration legal representation while supporting the day-to-day operations of the legal department. This role works closely with paralegals, DOJ Accredited Representatives, legal interns, and organizational leadership to ensure exceptional client service, compliance, and program effectiveness.

The successful candidate will manage an immigration caseload while also contributing to program development, quality assurance, staff training, grant support, and community outreach.


Essential Responsibilities


Legal Services

  • Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Conduct client consultations and determine eligibility for immigration benefits.
  • Provide legal advice and representation in accordance with organizational priorities.
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation.
  • Review cases for legal sufficiency and quality assurance.
  • Provide referrals when legal representation is not appropriate.
  • Maintain all required professional licenses and certifications.

Program Leadership

  • Assist with supervising, mentoring, and training legal staff.
  • Support legal intake, case selection, case assignment, and case management processes.
  • Collaborate with Finance regarding billing and fee collection.
  • Maintain and improve legal case management systems and databases.
  • Prepare reports on program outcomes, caseloads, and performance metrics.
  • Research grant opportunities and assist with grant proposals and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other Luminus programs to ensure clients receive comprehensive services.
  • Participate in community education, outreach, and professional networking opportunities.

Requirements

Qualifications


Required

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Maryland.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of immigration law experience.
  • Experience representing clients before Immigration Court (EOIR).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration law and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel for court appearances, training, and business needs.

Preferred

  • Experience with Docketwise and/or Salesforce.
  • Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
  • Additional language skills (Korean or Chinese) are a plus.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring legal staff.
  • Grant writing or nonprofit experience.
