At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Opportunity

Netflix is building one of the most ambitious advertising businesses in the world and the Advertising Legal team is seeking a Counsel, Advertising Technology to join our Ads Legal organization. This team sits at the intersection of ad technology, data strategy, and privacy law, advising on some of the most complex and consequential questions in the digital advertising industry today. This team works closely with cross functional teams, including Advertising, Product, Business and Legal Affairs, Privacy, and Product Legal, and also collaborates with regional counsel globally, though this role is primarily US-focused.

Your work will directly shape how Netflix targets, measures, and delivers advertising while keeping us firmly within the bounds of legal and regulatory requirements and consumer expectations. If you're energized by technically complex legal problems, comfortable operating in ambiguity, and excited to help build a growing ads business, this role is for you.

This position is based in Los Angeles, CA or New York, NY and reports to the Director, Advertising Legal.

What You’ll Do

  • Advise on ad tech product and platform development: serve as a primary legal partner to Netflix's Ads Platform team on the build-out of advertising product/tech features

  • Negotiate agreements with measurement companies and other partners;

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: work daily with the Ads Platform team, Privacy Legal, Product Legal, and other internal teams serving as a trusted legal partner who helps the business move with speed and confidence, rather than gatekeeping

  • Build scalable legal infrastructure that allows the advertising team to operate efficiently as the business grows

  • Conduct legal trainings: help increase legal acumen across advertising and ad tech teams by preparing and delivering targeted trainings on key legal topics

What We're Looking For

  • 4-6 years of relevant legal experience with meaningful time spent on ad tech and digital/programmatic advertising, ideally in-house or at a law firm

  • Substantive familiarity with ad tech: you understand how topics like demand-side platforms, data clean rooms, identity resolution, and third-party measurement work at a technical level, not just a conceptual one

  • Transactional experience: you've negotiated agreements with companies across the advertising ecosystem

  • Privacy law fluency: you have a working command of the privacy frameworks that underpin modern data practices in advertising and can apply them practically

  • Risk tolerance and business judgment: you're comfortable making calls in the absence of perfect information, offering clear, concise risk framing rather that avoids unnecessary stalling of the business; you operate like a business partner, not outside counsel

  • Strong communication skills: you translate complex legal requirements into plain language for technical and non-technical stakeholders alike, and you're comfortable presenting your views succinctly and with confidence

  • Autonomy and initiative: you take ownership of your portfolio, identify problems before they escalate, and propose solutions rather than waiting to be directed

  • J.D. from a U.S. accredited law school and active bar membership in California or New York (or eligibility for admission)

  • Don’t forget to mention GoInhouse.com as your source when applying

  • Bonus: Experience working with entertainment or streaming companies, familiarity with IAB standards, or prior exposure to CTV/OTT advertising legal issues.
