Starting Rate: $75,000.00-$105,000.00 annually Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform legal research and provides advice and guidance to City departments on a wide variety of legal matters, including interpretation of ordinances, policies, contracts, employment issues, and regulatory compliance.
- Handle additional legal matters as assigned by the Corporation Counsel, including municipal prosecutions, administrative hearings, and other related proceedings.
- Represent the City and its employees in litigation matters in state and federal courts, including all phases of litigation such as motion practice, discovery, depositions, expert witness coordination, trial preparation, trials, and appeals.
- Assign, coordinate, and review work performed by secretaries, paralegals, and other support staff as needed to ensure efficient case management and office operations.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will hold a Juris Doctorate degree and possess a valid license to practice law in the State of Illinois. They will demonstrate strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities, along with sound professional judgment and a commitment to ethical public service. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret and apply statutes, regulations, and case law; prepare clear and persuasive legal documents; and provide well-reasoned legal advice to agency staff and leadership. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple assignments, and a collaborative working style are essential. Experience in government, administrative law, litigation, or regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
