Uintah County Attorney’s Office in Vernal, Utah, is hiring a Civil Deputy County Attorney!

Are you a skilled civil attorney looking for a meaningful next step where your work directly serves a community, you report straight to the County Attorney, and you get to live in one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in Utah? Do you want to escape the congestion, sky-high housing costs, and daily grind of city life while still practicing high- impact law? If you’re ready to trade traffic for trailheads and skyscrapers for mountain views, keep reading.

The Civil Deputy County Attorney position offers a competitive salary of $110,000 –$140,000 per year (DOE). This is a full-time role reporting directly to the County Attorney. While the core focus is civil practice supporting county government, a willingness to contribute to criminal prosecutions is required, as is an active Utah
State Bar license in good standing.

Strong civil experience is essential; prior criminal prosecution experience is a valuable bonus that will help you stand out.

You’ll handle a variety of civil matters—contracts, administrative law, land use, employment issues, litigation support, and more—while having the opportunity to make a real difference in how local government serves its residents. It’s public service with variety, autonomy, and purpose.

Why Vernal and Uintah County?
Vernal sits at the base of the majestic Uintah Mountains in the heart of northeastern Utah’s Dinosaurland. This is a place where world-class outdoor recreation is literally minutes from the office: hiking, fishing, hunting, world-class rafting, ATV trails, camping, and exploring Dinosaur National Monument, Red Fleet State Park, and the Ashley
National Forest.

  • Enjoy a lower cost of living well below national averages and affordable housing options.
  • Experience a safe, family-friendly, close-knit community with a strong sense of belonging, local events, and a relaxed pace of life.

Uintah County offers the perfect blend of professional challenge and quality of life. It’s a place where your legal work has visible impact, and your personal life gets the rural lifestyle you’ve been craving.

About the Uintah County Attorney’s Office
Led by County Attorney Nathan L. Rawlings, our office is dedicated to professional, ethical, and effective legal service for the residents and government of Uintah County.

Are you ready to practice law with a view and make a difference in a community that values its attorneys?

If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been looking for, we want to hear from you.
