Qualifications:

Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join the North American legal and compliance team, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer of Goldwind Americas. Based in Chicago, this attorney will provide practical, timely, and business oriented legal counsel across a broad range of transactional, corporate, employment, compliance, and dispute related matters. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to cross functional teams and play an important role in supporting the Company’s wind turbine sales, installation, service and related operations throughout the region.
This position is currently posted at a specific level; however, final title and level will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide strategic, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including domestic and cross-border wind turbine supply, installation, service and maintenance, logistics, procurement, vendor, contractor, confidentiality, and other commercial arrangements.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Company policies, governance processes, and internal controls to align with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other disputes, including management of external counsel and coordination of litigation strategy and related processes.
  • Conduct legal due diligence, identify risk areas and mitigation strategies, and support transaction structuring, approvals, and closings.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments, including trade, ethics, and compliance requirements, and translate them into practical guidance for business stakeholders.
  • Advise on risk management strategies and help develop practical solutions that support business objectives while protecting the Company’s interests.
  • Provide additional legal support on special projects and other matters, as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer of Goldwind Americas.
  • Additional duties as assigned or as business needs emerge.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school in the United States.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Illinois.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant legal experience, preferably including meaningful transactional experience in an in-house legal department, law firm, or both.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical, and risk-based legal advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and business judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across legal and non-legal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and related business tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed.

Desired Qualifications/Core Competencies/Skills:

  • Experience drafting and negotiating wind turbine supply, installation, and service agreements.
  • Familiarity with dispute resolution, management of external counsel, and internal investigations or compliance-related matters.
  • Knowledge of cross-border transactions, international trade, and ethics and compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new areas of law as business needs evolve.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
