SR ASSOCIATE COUNSEL
JOB DESCRIPTION
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduate degree from an accredited law school, LL.B., or J.D. Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of legal experience required. Membership of Georgia Bar Association. Minimum of 2 years litigation experience required.
SUMMARY
Responsible for providing general legal representation of the Authority and its employees in mediation, arbitration and litigation in defense of claims (e.g. motor vehicle and train-related claims, slip and fall, trip and fall, and police-related claims including false arrest, excessive force, workers’ compensation, employment law litigation and other civil rights matters); assisting in the negotiation and settlement of claims prior to litigation; pursuing cost recovery of claims by the Authority against third parties; and rendering legal advice as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May handle legal representation of the Authority and its employees in one or more of the following manners.
1. Represents the authority in mediation, arbitration, hearings, trials and general
litigation, to include but not limited to workers’ compensation claims and/or employment matters in state and federal courts.
2. Prepares pleadings and other legal documents necessary to defend Authority from
inception to conclusion of legal actions.
3. Represents the Authority before federal and state agencies and in public hearings.
4. Assists adjusters with assessing claims to determine validity and proper action.
5. Conducts investigations, as assigned.
6. Researches and drafts, as required, legal opinions, briefs or memoranda.
7. Provides general advice to and representation of the Authority, as assigned.
8. Performs other duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigns and reviews work of paralegals, interns and/or externs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.

Salary Range: $83,000-125,000
