Pye Legal Group

Counsel, Family Office

Houston, TX Full Time

Special opportunity for a corporate attorney to join a sophisticated private family office and work on complex, high-value transactions and investments across a diverse range of industries and asset classes.

Pye Legal Group is assisting a longstanding client with the search for a Counsel to join its family office legal team in Houston. This is a repeat client where we have successfully placed lawyers in the past, giving us firsthand knowledge of the organization and its legal team.

The work is unusually varied and sophisticated. The lawyer will advise on M&A, private equity and other investments, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, international transactions, commercial agreements, real estate transactions, corporate governance, and other strategic matters. The family office invests and operates across a broad range of industries, giving the attorney exposure to transactions that differ significantly in structure, geography, and subject matter.

This role should be especially attractive to a strong corporate attorney who enjoys sophisticated deal work but wants greater variety, closer interaction with business decision-makers, and the opportunity to advise across the full lifecycle of investments and business activities, all with more predictable hours.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with structuring, drafting, and negotiating M&A transactions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and asset acquisitions.
  • Advise on investments across a diverse range of domestic and international asset classes.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements across multiple industries.
  • Support international transactions and business activities, with particular focus on the UK and EU.
  • Advise on significant real estate acquisitions, divestitures, and development projects.
  • Provide guidance on corporate governance and other general corporate matters.
  • Work closely with senior business leaders and legal colleagues on strategic transactions and other complex legal issues.

What We’re Looking For

  • J.D. with strong academic credentials and membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • Approximately 6–9 years of relevant corporate experience with a top tier law firm and/or sophisticated in-house legal department.
  • Strong experience in M&A and corporate transactions.
  • Experience with private equity transactions, commercial agreements, corporate governance, international transactions, and general corporate law is highly desirable.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters simultaneously.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and provide practical advice.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and ability to build strong relationships with legal and business colleagues.
  • Investment management experience is a plus.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Rather than focusing on one industry or transaction type, you will work across a diverse portfolio of businesses, investments, asset classes, and geographies.

You will also have the opportunity to see transactions from the perspective of a long-term owner and investor, working closely with the people making strategic business and investment decisions.
