Assistant General Counsel - Intellectual Property
JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Assistant General Counsel - Intellectual Property here at Honeywell Technologies, you will have a significant impact on the company's intellectual property strategy and protection. Your legal expertise and guidance will directly influence the strength and value of Honeywell Technologies’ intellectual assets.
You will report directly to the Chief IP Counsel for New Product Introductions, and you’ll work out of our Charlotte, NC OR Rosemont, IL location on a Hybrid work schedule.
In this role, you will be part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) IP team and primarily support the Process Technology business including UOP LLC, a Honeywell company that is a leading international licensor of processing technology and supplier of engineering services, catalysts and adsorbents, equipment, specialty materials and digital solutions for the global refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries. In this role you will impact Honeywell's ability to protect its innovations, maintain a strong IP portfolio, and drive business growth through strategic intellectual property management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on NPI intellectual property (IP) matters to Honeywell's business units and senior management.
- Manage and oversee the protection and enforcement of Honeywell's IP rights, including patents, trade secrets, and copyrights.
- Implement IP strategy to identify and protect existing and new product offerings including invention mining and evaluation.
- Perform freedom to market and product clearance reviews.
- Conduct IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other IP business transactions.
- Provide input on contractual matters to contracts team including IP terms on IP-related agreements, such as joint development agreements and licensing agreements.
- Provide IP training to mitigate risks.
- Manage and oversee the work of external IP counsel.
QUALIFICATIONS
YOU MUST HAVE:
- 7 years of legal experience at a leading law-firm and/or in-house experience.
- Strong foundational knowledge and background in chemistry or other related subject matters such as chemical engineering, biochemistry OR material science.
- Registered to practice as a lawyer in a major legal jurisdiction.
- Registered to practice before a regional patent office in your relevant jurisdiction.
- Extensive intellectual property experience with an emphasis on domestic and international portfolio development and providing proactive recommendations to mitigate IP risks.
- Good understanding of IP technology transactions including IP licensing, joint development agreements, and mergers and acquisitions.
- Strong knowledge of patent and trademark laws and regulations.

The application period for the job is estimated to be 40 days from the job posting date; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
PAY EQUITY
The annual base salary range for this position is $217,000- $271,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
