FULL TIME WITH BENEFITS / Starting wage depending on experience:

$104,966.89 up to $140,000 Annually

The Deputy County Attorney performs a variety of professional legal duties related to the prosecution and litigation of criminal cases. The successful candidate will manage cases through all stages of the criminal justice process, work closely with law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and community partners, and help ensure the fair and effective administration of justice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prosecute criminal cases in justice, juvenile, and district courts.
  • Review law enforcement reports and determine appropriate criminal charges.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare legal documents.
  • Represent the State through hearings, trials, sentencing, and appeals.
  • Work closely with law enforcement and assist with search and arrest warrants.
  • Communicate with victims, witnesses, law enforcement, and opposing counsel.
  • Participate in an assigned off-hours rotation to assist law enforcement.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate has strong legal analysis, advocacy, research, writing, and communication skills and can effectively evaluate facts and evidence and apply applicable legal principles to individual cases.

Candidates should have knowledge of:

  • Criminal trial procedures and rules of evidence.
  • Advocacy techniques and legal principles.
  • Utah Code and applicable local ordinances.
  • Criminal prosecution and relevant case law.
  • Legal research principles, practices, and methods.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Sufficient experience to demonstrate the aptitude and ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Utah and be a member of the Utah State Bar in good standing.
