About Criminal Prosecutor I:
Prosecutes simple misdemeanors and other court duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Prosecutes simple misdemeanors and traffic violations in accordance with Iowa law.
- Prepares cases by reviewing reports, conducting legal research, reviewing criminal histories, and meeting with victims and witnesses.
- Drafts and negotiates plea agreements; participates in pretrial hearings and case management conferences.
- Prepares witnesses for testimony and organizes evidence for trial.
- Drafts, files, and argues pretrial motions; participates in jury selection, opening statements, witness examination, objections, and closing arguments.
- Conducts sentencing hearings, including preparation of victim impact statements and restitution documentation.
- Prepares and argues post-trial motions, including legal research and written responses.
- Represents the County Attorney’s Office in mental health commitment hearings and related appeals.
- Participates in weekend and holiday rotation for bond reviews and court coverage; attends initial appearances.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Master’s degree or Ph.D. level of study.
- No experience is required.
Shift
Monday - Friday
8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
