The mission of the United States Attorney's Office, Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, is to enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States, provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior, and administer and enforce the Nation's laws to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree The Criminal Division prosecutes a wide range of federal criminal matters, including criminal immigration, terrorism, narcotics distribution, illegal firearm possession, violent crime, child exploitation/child pornography, human trafficking, transnational organized crime, complex securities and fraud investigations, health care fraud, and public corruption. The Division also prosecutes violent crime and other offenses. The Assistant U.S. Attorney hired for this position will primarily prosecute drug trafficking offenses and criminal immigration offenses and may prosecute other types of cases as needed. Duties that may be performed include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law. See www.sss.gov. Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent) and be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
Preferred Qualifications:
Hiring preference will be given to applicants with prior felony trial experience and those who have demonstrated the ability to prosecute from the initial investigative stage through trial. Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills, as well as strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. - Partnering with federal, state, and local law enforcement to manage criminal investigations and prosecutions brought in the federal courts in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
- Advising federal agents on questions of law and Departmental policy.
- Recommending charging decisions and proposing dispositions with regard to assigned cases.
- Researching and drafting all legal pleadings and being prepared to try cases in federal court.
- Investigating and pursuing asset forfeiture related to prosecutions.
- Overseeing and coordinating the preparation of litigation assignments for legal support staff.
