POSITION SUMMARY:The Associate Counsel position is responsible for providing analysis and counsel for a wide range of legal matters, including advising on risk reduction, regulation interpretation, contract creation, negotiations, and litigation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide strategy as the legal team represents the company in various legal proceedings, prepares legal pleadings, motions, discovery, and stipulations.Manage legal relationships with business units and outside counsel.Analyze and interpret legal documents such as promissory notes, mortgages, assignments, allonges, powers of attorney, and other financial documents (e.g., mortgage payment records) and court document such as complaints, answers, motions, orders and so forth.Assist with management of litigation.Manage tasks with LegalTracker/Serengeti software.Summarize proceedings and identify key factual and legal issues of the cases.Read, understand, and summarize arguments in opponents' pleadings, memoranda, and briefsAnswer written discovery and locate, review, and segregate documents to be produced at discovery process of litigation or administrative hearing and provide for production and delivery of the documents.Perform investigatory work, such as locating pertinent business records and correspondence.Assist in preparation for trial or administrative hearings by reviewing, organizing, and indexing documents, and maintaining and updating casefile logs, and other systems of case management recordkeeping.Escalate significant business or legal issues, assuring matters are handled timely.Provide litigation reports.Track litigation disputes to resolution.Provide training and direction to staff.Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Strong oral and written communication skills, with an ability to interact effectively with people in a variety of corporate rolesAbility to handle ambiguity, juggle many matters at once and quickly shift from one situation or task to anotherExcellent time management and organization skillsExperience addressing a wide variety of corporate legal issues in an innovative mannerStrong work ethicSolid foundation and understanding of legal documents and contractsAbility to work in a high-pressure, fast paced environmentDemonstrate sound judgment and decision makingEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's Degree and a JD Degree from a law school required.Admission to a state bar with an active membership in good standing.Minimum 1 years of experience practicing law in related fields.Mortgage company or law firm experience with federal and state financial services laws affecting residential real estate lending and servicing preferred.MACHINES, OFFICE EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE:Proficient with Microsoft Office applicationsComputer, Fax, email programsWestlawFidelity MSP (Mortgage Servicing Platform)LPS (Lender Processing Services)Working knowledge of LegalTracker/Serengeti preferred
