Job Posting Job Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Deputy General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel for General Health Care (Assistant General Counsel) will provide legal counsel to Beth Israel Lahey Health and its subsidiaries (BILH).The Assistant General Counsel represents BILH before courts, administrative review boards and regulatory agencies. The Assistant General Counsel Health Care/Corporate will provide advice and counsel in a variety of areas, including general health care law, privacy, health care compliance, and corporate law. In addition, the Assistant General Counsel Health Care/Corporate will serve as a general support resource for the other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Directly provide healthcare and corporate related legal services to clients and oversee the allocation of internal and external resources for healthcare and corporate related legal services.
  2. Negotiate and draft contracts and agreements including physician arrangements, vendor agreements, services and supplier agreements.
  3. Draft board votes and provides general corporate advice and oversight related to the organization's numerous Boards. Responsible for maintenance and oversight of organization's internal corporate governance.
  4. Advise clients about the impact of recent regulatory and legislative changes and guidance. Maintain current knowledge of federal and state health care law. Participate in committees and assist in the development of BILH Health policies and procedures that raise corporate and health law issues.
  5. Make presentations both inside and outside BILH and conduct teaching sessions for medical and professional staffs and other employees regarding relevant legal issues.
  6. Support the corporate compliance program and provide legal advice related to compliance matters, including billing compliance, data privacy and security.
  7. Work directly with outside counsel on issues requiring specialized legal consultation and serve as liaison with outside counsel on referred legal matters.
  8. Participate in the attorney rotation for providing health care advice connected to medical-legal emergencies.
  9. Perform special projects pertaining to health care and corporate law issues. Work collaboratively within the BILH legal group to ensure consistent legal delivery of legal services across the system.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with a lawyer with 3-6 years' experience in health care and corporate law.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Doctoral degree in JD Degree from an accredited institution required.
  2. Admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  3. 5-8 years related work experience required in Between 5-8 years of practice as a health care attorney and/or corporate attorney in the health care sector..
  4. Must be a member in good standing to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  5. Proven ability to provide legal advice and counsel with minimum oversight.
  6. This position is located in Boston with need to travel to OGC Burlington office on a regular basis.
  7. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Law firm experience strongly preferred.

  7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
